There was a response to this on Lady Lydia’s blog a little while ago. Suggestions in such situations included becoming a governess for a family or living with an elderly lady who might benefit from caretaking and meal preparation, etc. in exchange for room and board. Although these options involve “getting a job,” they also allow the young lady to pursue her desire to be a homemaker.

Thanks for clarifying…I wasn’t sure if you were asking more for others or yourself, although I had an inkling that it was for others!

Thank you for brining up this topic…I’m sure you do hear from many young ladies in this position, sadly enough.

I pray God gives you grace and wisdom as opportunity presents itself to you to be an encouragement. (Isn’t it neat to see how God has used your experiences to encourage others?)

This is so hard! It is hard enough when “the world” doesn’t see and understand things from our point of view, but it can be heart–breaking when it’s our own family.

I know that the most important aspect in this situation is to remain honorable and respectful to parents, which I’m sure can be quite a challenge when you are having your convictions questioned.

One would hope that a parent could be “won” by a quiet and gentle disposition, just like the non-believing husband the Bible speaks about.

It should be of greatest encouragement that God the Father is indeed the perfect, protective Father, especially to those without an earthly one.

And as a young woman seeks to honor Him by her choices, she can trust that He will ultimately work all things out for her good and His glory.

I imagine this is no different from many other difficult circumstances where all we can do is trust, obey and PRAY!

After that, the more you can expose your mother to the picture of godly homemaking, through books, friends, etc., the more she will be able to see it as a viable option for a young lady and not just “her daughter’s whim”.

I’ve read your testimony before, and I so admire your determination and heart for being a homemaker and fulfilling your call in the home. I pray you remain encouraged!
