Relaxed Homeschooling and Life Learning
In keeping with our relaxed, “life-learning” approach to homeschooling, I look for “quests” of sorts, to provide some sort of scaffold on which we then hang other information, or vice versa (a single piece of information that sends us on a quest). Here is where we are right now…
We have been reading through the book of Daniel–highly recommend it. While reading another book, “When Science Fails” (also highly recommended), we ran across the word “Pisa”, which reminded me of the Tower of Pisa.
Which prompted me to think it would be a great idea to study the 7 Wonders of the World. Which comes full circle, in part, and ties in to our story of Daniel (one of the 7 wonders being the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, built by Nebuchadnezzar), which is what makes learning so meaningful–connecting relevant information.
(And since we’re reading about Mother Teresa at night with Dad, reading about the Taj Mahal will have something to “hang” on…)
You could spend a whole year studying the 7 wonders and all the “learning trails” (people, customs, places, medical discoveries, political views, etc.)
Just a friendly suggestion

Love it! Maybe when we finish our rabbit trail of bees! teehee.
I love this idea. Sometimes I feel I really need to be more relaxed in my homeschooling approach. This approach would work so well in our family. We just studied Nebuchadnazzer and the hanging gardens (from The Mystery of History), but now I feel like we really missed out on a lot by not exploring the topic more. Thank you so much for posting this!
