Seeing the Everyday…A Work of Art

I am constantly breath-taken by the miraculous orchestration of God’s working small events in our lives that blend themselves together like notes that form a harmonious sound…

One such “note” added itself to my symphony this week. I received in the mail, for review, a magazine. Or at least that’s what it’s called for reference’s sake. But it’s not a magazine at all….it’s a work of art. One would never throw this book away.

Seeing The Everyday: Finding Poetry in the Prosaic

I knew it was “family-friendly”, but I opened it reluctantly, not certain I wouldn’t find some mushy-gushy stuff with flavors of a “one-size-fits-all”.

First the beautiful, REAL photography, and then a few tears and a few chills later, I fell in love with the book in my hand whose pages even felt wonderful to touch.

Seeing the Everyday is an artistic accomplishment that grabs your heart and mind, and so gently commands the buzz of the world around you to fade, until you are left holding the simple truth that life is about what we do in the ordinary moments, and being compelled to acknowledge it.

Come peek inside:

“I remember learning the art of egg separating as I eagerly embarked on my first angel food cake….I realized that for mother, the kitchen was a cathedral where she could share her love, impart true principles to her children, sing, laugh through dirty pots and sticky floors, and set an example that would nourish our souls as well as our bodies. The stove was an altar of service and the refrigerator a repository of potential charitable contributions. As we watched her work and labored alongside her in the classroom of character, knowing that it was all for others, the kitchen was a chapel of charity, a temple of testimony and a well of work freely and cheerfully offered to those she loved. And that was everyone.”

Seeing the Everyday is an oasis among the dusty, forsaken sanctuaries of home. It is a beckon to remember that the home is where culture is really built…where bonds are made, and where children grow up to be people.

It is welcoming to any mother, father or child; and yet sweet whispers of our great God who is the author of this beautiful thing called family, can be heard throughout the pages.

It is a “magazine” every home should have. It is one you’ll open again and again.

P.S. I think a gift subscription would be a great way to bless someone you know. This is a practial way to defend the home.
