Brothers & Sisters
Brothers & Sisters…
“Friendships in the family require care and culture as do other friendships. We must win one another’s love inside the home doors just as we win the love of outside friends.”
”Brothers and sisters are each other’s natural keepers. If they fulfilled their duties in this regard, the one to the other, life would show fewer wrecks. They should shield each other. They should be an inspiration to each other in the direction of all noble thought and better life. They should be each other’s guardian angels in this world of danger and of false and fatal paths.”
“It ought to make a young man’s heart exult to have a beautiful and noble sister to lean upon his arm and look up to him for protection, for counsel, for stong, holy friendship. And a sister ought to be proud and happy to have a brother growing into manly strength, to stand by her side, to bear her upon his arm and to shelter her from life’s storms. Between brother and sister there should be a friendship deep, strong, close, confiding and faithful.”
Quotes from The Family by J. R. Miller
I know, these words are lofty, and bring a sense of heavy duty. But, the alternative is to give up, lower the standard, and just compromise to fit the culture’s expectations. But I say, “Never give up, never give in.”
Yes, they’ll bicker again today; question is, will we let it go, or keep pressing toward the mark?

I just recently discovered your blog and it is so very lovely and encouraging. Thank you for taking the time to share the things the Lord lays on your heart.
“The Family” by J.R. Miller is one of my very favorite books of all times (mine is actually titled “Home Making”). Your refresher on his thoughts pertaining to siblings is very timely!!!

My magazine website is http://www.hiswonders.webs.com.
I am the girl that asked for your Siblings Relationship article.
Just wondered if you knew of the Preacher from Tennessee, Mr. Micheal Pearl. He and his wife, Miss Debi, wrote “To Train Up A Child”
Miss Debi wrote the book “Created to Be His Help Meet”.
Their website is http://www.nogreaterjoy.org
God Bless,
Faith

Yes, very familiar…some of their things have blessed and encouraged me tremendously. I have been, however, disappointed in some recent things Mr. Pearl has written.

Love the quote. It reminds me of my youngest daughter and my son. Even though they are grown and she is married, they are still close and consider each other to be good friends. So glad they had their childhood years to foster friendship instead of going to school and being pitted against each other.
