Kelly, I've not been by your blog for so long! Glad to see all is well with your sweet baby! I would have been due last month, so it's bittersweet for me! I do pray for you!

Good way to get blackstrap molasses down:

1 cup milk (or whatever you use in place of such)
1/2 banana
1/4-1/2 tsp. vanilla
1-2 TBs. molasses

I have used half honey, half molasses to help. I now use agave syrup as it's low glycemic.

The banana just cuts the strong molasses flavor somehow! It tastes *kind of* like a malt! ;)

I hope that helps! It's how I raised my usually low hemoglobin with more than one baby--I actually got up to 11.5 when I usually struggle to get into the 10s!

Blessings on you, dear sister!

Elizabeth,

Thanks so much! I have been taking liquid chlorophyll and it seems to be helping--also some herbal tea. I may need to try the Yellow Dock.

Kelly,

Thanks for your transparency and your courage! Having children is not easy, but as you know, brings many rewards both in this world and the next one.

When I was very anemic during one of my pregnancies and had to get my hemoglobin up in a hurry to qualify for a home birth, I used Yellow Dock tincture with great results. Have you tried that? Liquid cholorophyl is also great.

I have had 2 traditional births, 6 totally natural births with 2 of those at home with a midwife, and then ended up with 2 induced births with epidurals. Something I never planned -- but as moms, we have to be flexible! I heartily recommend natural childbirth! It is not easy, but doable, and worth it all! however, from my experience, an unmedicated birth and an induction do not make a good combination!!

The best thing my husband did for me during the hard part of labor was read through special verses I had prepared beforehand dealing with childbirth, suffering, etc. This gave me something to focus on and strengthened me for the challenge of the hardest contractions that occur during transition.

Hope something here helps you!

many blessings,
Elizabeth

You can do this natural thing! Honestly, my husband isn't a big cheerleader, but it helped me a LOT to have a Doula present...basically a friend or someone trained in labor support. It helped SO MUCH! I guess my biggest advice is to not hold back and don't be afraid to do whatever it takes to feel better in labor (for me with my last baby this meant screaming for an epidural and a csection while pushing...yeah I had a homebirth, neither of those things were happening!). Later you won't remember it and it won't matter. Just let go and let your body do its thing!

Hi Kelly! We'll be praying for you & your baby. For the molasses, make molasses tea (add a tablespoon to a cup of hot water) or make molasses cookies. They're actually very soft like a cupcake almost and delicious! As for natural childbirth tips, what worked for me each time was different. The first time I used visualization, the second I threw a sheet over my head so no one could disturb and then sat in a rocking chair and rocked for dear life when transition hit (that was my longest labor - about 7 hours). This last time I birthed in a birthing pool and the water really helped. The only problem was that every time the midwives or my husband moved, they bumped the pool and I lost my focus. I've noticed that if everything is quiet and still, I can focus on laboring and it really isn't that bad. Just focus on the moment and don't even THINK about how much longer you have to go. If things get really rough have someone remind you that soon you'll be holding a new miracle in your hands. Also, PRAY for a short, easy labor. It works for me. I have very very short labors (the average is bout 2 hours, but really hard pregnancies!). Also, have some one with you while you're in labor who will pray over you the entire time. My closest friend was with me at our last birth and she continuously prayed over me. When my water had been broken for nearly 12 hours and no contractions and nothing else working, she prayed over me and in under 5 minutes I was 8 cm and in 15 min the midwives were yelling for my husband. At the moment when I thought I couldn't go any farther (this was my fastest and hardest labor, she get my attention and said "Elizabeth, look at all the birds God has sent to welcome your baby into the world." I looked up at an old pine tree and it was FULL of songbirds! It immediately brought my attention to God and reminded me that I was not alone, but that God was there with me. :D
