America: Land of the FREE? Not so much.
Terry at Breathing Grace did a great job articulating the urgency of the state of our country. We are simply obligated to understand what is happening and to use what power we have left to combat it. (“To him who knows to do right and does it not, to him it is sin.“)
“We interrupt this blog break to ask those of you who are not rich, white and male to please speak up so that you can retain your liberty! I hated posting this. I wish that our nation wasn’t too apathetic to see and care what is happening. This stuff should have been beaten back decades ago….
I am so sick of people painting this in terms of liberals and conservatives. This is so much bigger than that…”

Thanks for the link, Kelly. Your title is so much better than mine!

Hi Kelly,
Just wanted to say congratulations on the birth of little Ellia! She’s beautiful!
I was gone from here for a bit, but I’m glad to be back.
Hugs!

I always wondered how America, Isreal’s great defender wasn’t mentioned in Revelation. While still respecting the office and person of the presidency whom God put in, I have been able to better understand why since this January. Although to blame him entirely would be niave. I blame me and the other Christians over the decades who stayed out of politics cause we “trusted God.” What if God was entrusting us to do something about it while we sat back and did nothing?

Hi Kelly,
Did you read about the girl in N.H. who is being forced to quit homeschool to start public school. It’s on the One News Now site.
The court decided this girl’s “interests, and particularly her intellectual and emotional development, would be best served by exposure to a public school setting in which she would be challenged to solve problems presented by a group learning situation
The court went on to say she “would be best served by exposure to different points of view at a time in her life when she must begin to critically evaluate multiple systems of belief and behavior.”
What’s the title? Land of the free? Not so much. Yup.

KB,
I’m afraid I did read it–a friend sent me the link. It made me nauseated. As I’ve said before…the slippery slope continues.

Yes. That is code for: “Will be easier to manipulate into accepting ideas that God isn’t real and she doesn’t have to listen to Him”.
Satan is so very busy and we need to be daily in prayer–for our children, communities and leaders.

I always wondered how America, Isreal’s great defender wasn’t mentioned in Revelation.
We tend to assume that America isn’t mentioned. But, the United States was founded and early populated by Europeans, who would have come out of the realm of the dismantled (rather than overthrown) Roman Empire. We have experienced an age of freedom and the ability to worship God without threat of persecution…but perhaps the time has come for our country to be re-assimilated into the main body of “the beast”.
Interestingly, Revelation 18 (while being a reference to “Babylon”) seems to bear a remarkably eerie similarity to modern United States. And, while I’m not a prophecy professor, I have wondered if “Babylon” is simply a general reference to the Satanically inspired world system which is fatally opposed to God’s taking His rightful place of authority.
While America may not geographically or literally be the “Babylon” that is spoken of here, I can’t ignore the fact that we have certainly nourished a spirit that deserves the type of destruction that is described.
KellyL,
I still firmly believe that “staying out of politics” is not where Christians have garnered blame. I think it is more in the area of personal interaction, (true, biblical) evangelism and the way we live our everyday lives (see Kelly’s post on idolatry).
Even at that, I don’t know that it would necessarily have changed the outcome of the election or the turn our country has taken. But it would make a difference in how many of us have had our worlds rocked by the circumstances. Many of us have abandoned our First Love to chase after possessions, entertainment and comfort. We need to wake up NOW.
God said to the Israelites:
“Because you did not serve the LORD your God with joyfulness and gladness of heart, by reason of the abundance of all things,
therefore you shall serve your enemies whom the LORD will send against you, in hunger and thirst, in nakedness, and in want of all things; and he will put a yoke of iron upon your neck, until he has destroyed you. Deuteronomy 28:47-48
While I am not of the America-as-Israel belief, I do recognize that God’s nature is unchanging and He will not overlook when His people are of “double mind”.
