Just did a whole reply and lost it all with the push of a button! Here goes again. From a report by Anthony Wayne and Lawrence Newell: “Radiation, as defined by physics terminology, is "the electromagnetic waves emitted by the atoms and molecules of a radioactive substance as a result of nuclear decay." Radiation causes ionization, which is what occurs when a neutral atom gains or loses electrons. In simpler terms, a microwave oven decays and changes the molecular structure of the food by the process of radiation. Had the manufacturers accurately called them "radiation ovens", it's doubtful they would have ever sold one, but that's exactly what a microwave oven is.”
Research from Hertel & Blanc: "This is contrary to conventional heating of food, in which heat transfers convectionally from without to within. Cooking by microwaves begins within the cells and molecules where water is present and where the energy is transformed into frictional heat... they can also deform the structures of molecules and have qualitative consequences.” They even conducted blood tests on people – same people; same food; microwaved half, conventionally cooked the other half. Results: change in blood composition, even a rise in bad cholesterol! There are lists and lists of dangers/side-effects and illnesses due to microwave usage. History states that the Russians found the first microwaves in war time when German troops pulled out. The Russian scientists had a look at it and declared it unsafe for use due to health hazards, both biological and environmental (and it had been banned in Russia for many, many years). Not convinced, this is what another Dr had to say: Dr. Lita Lee of Hawaii reported in the December 9, 1989 Lancet: "Microwaving baby formulas converted certain trans-amino acids into their synthetic cisisomers. Synthetic isomers, whether cis-amino acids or trans-fatty acids, are not biologically active. Further, one of the amino acids, L-proline, was converted to its d-isomer, which is known to be neurotoxic (poisonous to the nervous system) and nephrotoxic (poisonous to the kidneys). It's bad enough that many babies are not nursed, but now they are given fake milk (baby formula) made even more toxic via microwaving." “In Dr. Lita Lee's book, Health Effects of Microwave Radiation - Microwave Ovens, and in the March and September 1991 issues of Earthletter, she stated that every microwave oven leaks electro-magnetic radiation, harms food, and converts substances cooked in it to dangerous organ-toxic and carcinogenic products. Further research summarized in this article reveal that microwave ovens are far more harmful than previously imagined.” The short version: You put an organic carrot in microwave, zap it, it might still look like a carrot, but it is actually not a carrot anymore (no matter if you used glass or plastic in the process)! This can turn into a blog site all its own! Please continue to do your own research, the Bible warns: (Hosea 4:6) my people are destroyed from lack of knowledge.

Cooking and microwaving are NOT the same process. "This is contrary to conventional heating of food, in which heat transfers convectionally from without to within. Cooking by microwaves begins within the cells and molecules where water is present and where the energy is transformed into frictional heat." Research have even proved that your blood composition (even increase in bad cholesterol) changes after consuming microwaved food! Other facts: "This radiation results in destruction and deformation of molecules of food, and in the formation of new compounds (called radiolytic compounds) unknown to man and nature." On infant milk: "Heating the bottle in a microwave can cause slight changes in the milk. In infant formulas, there may be a loss of some vitamins. In expressed breast milk, some protective properties may be destroyed." Other research indicated that some aspects of infant formula turned toxic. The report went on. "Warming a bottle by holding it under tap water or by setting it in a bowl of warm water, then testing it on your wrist before feeding, may take a few minutes longer, but it is much safer." (Research by Hertel and Blanc.) Russia found the device after war with Germany. They took it back home, scientists researched it and they found it harmful enough to ban it in Russia for many many years. The easy short understandable version is: If you put milk/squash/carrot into the microwave, low or high heat does not matter, it might look like milk/squash/carrot when it comes out, but ain't milk/squash/carrot any more (due to cell-level/ composition change). And if you are still not convinced: "In Dr. Further research summarized in this article reveal that microwave ovens are far more harmful than previously imagined." Therefore, no use buying organic if you zap it in the microwave! Not much difference whether you use glass or plastic, it's the food itself that is harmed. I can give you lists and lists of proof and diseases/bad side-effects and start a whole blog on the subject, but PLEASE do your own research, the Bible warns: (Hosea 4:6) my people are destroyed from lack of knowledge!

Kelly, did you change your font for your site, or is it just my lovely computer? It is super tiny for me.

As a side note, microwaves do not have radiation. In addition, all food looses nutriens with any amount of cooking. Nuking is prevelant term, but not an accurate one. I am a health freak, but I don't eat all raw food. Just most without artificial colors, flavors, sweeteners and refined anything. I still use the micro on real plates. What is the difference,Petra, in your estimation of microwaving and stove cooking?

Petra,

Good question...why do we still use a microwave? Convenience? Not wanting to believe it's really as bad as they say?

If there's any redeeming quality in it, we don't use our microwave often, we NEVER microwave plastic, and we keep it in a separate room which we leave while using.

But getting rid of it would make better sense...I think we might!

Hey Petra,

I was thinking the same thing about the microwave. We haven't had one in like 10+ years and don't miss it. Well, my hubby use to because he liked to heat just water for coffee but now we just boil some or run just water thru the coffee maker. He drinks lots of instant coffee. I am sure that isn't too good for us either. lol.

Why do I still read of sooo many health conscientious families using microwaves? (we are not even that health crazy but have throw the microwave out years ago and do not miss it 1 moment) Have any of you done some reading on how BAD they are to your food not to mention your bodies? Just asking...
