Comment Hijacking: Be Aware

As with every good thing people can turn it to evil. Yesterday Mary mentioned someone had been using her user name to make nasty comments. Today there were several obscene comments here using some of your user names (with mine responding) as well. Of course anyone with more than an infant’s intelligence recognizes the fraud.

I have blocked the Netherland-located IP address. Just be aware, wherever you are, that if you see comments from people that aren’t characteristic, it’s probably a fraudulent use. By the way, often they use the person’s real website address so that it looks as if it’s legitimate.

Ohhhh how dreadful. I had another online friend who had something like this happen to her. May I ask whose names in particular were used? I ask only because if mine were used, I’d like to post a warning to some of the other places I comment as well.

Thanks for the warning, and for your careful comment moderation!

My dear, sweet Lady Sophia’s name and Rachel :-(

This is sick, but predictable for the enemy to try to besmirch the good name of Christ Followers.

How awful! I have heard of someone hacking someones account to post, but to be clever enough to answer using the moderators account too….wow….scary world of the internet.

  6. Mrs. Hester says:

Wow, that is scary! Is it possible they could use their fake i.d.’s on other sites, or just this one?

  7. That is awful. I can’t imagine why anyone would DO such a thing. Isn’t there enough strife on the Internet?

  8. Word Warrior says:

    Mrs. Hester,

I’m assuming it’s likely to happen everywhere. I think it’s just a matter of writing in someone’s name, using a fake email and then putting in their url blog address. This person is a reader…I recognize their IP location.

People don’t understand that it’s hard to be completely anonymous due to IP addresses.

Really anytime you take a stand for Christ, the enemy takes notice. We fight not against flesh and blood but against spirits and principalities. Let’s pray so that God would have His way with them and they’d repent and follow Christ! The ferverent prayer of a righteous man (or us girls) availeth much! Darkness cannot stanfd against forgiveness, mercy and prayer for God’s will!

  10. Yes, somebody mentioned to me the same ip address when the person commented on her blog. If you just think, too, it would be very easy to make a counterfeit blog, stealing a picture and typing in the same name as your blog. Unfortunately, I didn’t get the url address when I found “my” comment in “my” name. My blog friend smelled a rat and asked me about it an then deleted it. I don’t know who is doing this.

    eeek! thanx for the warning

I saw one last week from a Jessica and it made NO sense at all. I was wondering if someone was trying to make a comment using my name (althoug I usually use Jess in Peru). Anyway, now this kind of confirms that maybe that is what was happening. Have a great day!

    Kelly (and ladies),
Sorry I haven’t been able to comment much lately (flu/newborn, etc). But this is simply terrible. It just makes me so angry to hear when a potentially valuable resource like this is exploited…
I hope that all of this gets straighted out and no one else gets hurt!!!
