X is the Greek letter for “Ch” which is just an abbreviation for Christ, not a substitution for it.

Didn’t know that. Thanks for sharing.

Do you really think that’s the intent of substituting X-mas for Christmas? In some other countries I’ve lived in–supposedly Christian countries–they use the equivalent of “Happy Holidays” in order to remove Jesus.

That’s true. The X is the first letter of the Greek word Xristos (Christ).
I remember reading a long essay twelve years ago, bemoaning how we have substituted X for Christ in the word Christmas, and how awful that was. When I first learned that that X stood for Christ, I felt embarassed for my lack of knowledge, and embarassed on behalf of the ill-informed journalist who wrote that article.

Like madame, I used to think X-mas was a slight on our wonderful Savior, but I have found the knowledge that X symbolizes Christ to be very comforting. Just think, even those who, in our modern day, write X-mas as a way of shortening the word, or trying to leave out Christ, are including Him in spite of themselves:)
