My husband and are have been married for almost a year and a half now and were recently blessed with our first child. We love your site and dream of having and large family and our own family business someday. (My hubby already works in a family business with his Mom, Dad and two brothers). Anyway....I was homeschooled from the beginning right through high-school and we'd often encounter people that, without knowing we were homeschooled, would say negative things simply because they didn't know any better. My mom taught us to look at it as ignorance on their part instead of a personal attack which made us a whole lot more compassionate towards them. Our actions speak louder than our words-the responsibility of setting a good example and responding in a Christ-like manner scares me sometimes. I hope my kid(s DV) can parrot me one day. (as I know you do too, Kelly) I pray the love and hope of Christ is so ingrained in her that it exudes out of her wherever she goes. That the presence of God is able to abide in her because she is fiercely in love with Jesus and radically obedient to God alone. I pray that signs and wonders accompany her to bring Glory to God and to call His creation back to Him. I don't just want her to think one way, although that is clearly the beginning. I want her to live and act out the way she has been taught: To be a servant, a leader, a healer, an amazing woman after God's own heart. This is an intense learning she can only get spending greatest portion of the day at home with her parents. It is funny how the criticism is spot on (in that it addresses why we do it)...makes you wonder why they hate it so. Well, maybe not wonder, but know: it is in direct contrast to what the world wants to teach. I hope my daughter does more than just parrot what she has been taught.
