The Wife I Want to Be

kelly-aaron

May I think the best of him in every circumstance,

May I laugh and sing and make our lives a dance.

May I build him up with the words I say,

May I give him reason to look forward to the day.

May I be quick to look over his mistakes,

And thank him for the efforts that he makes.

May he feel safe and know that I’m his biggest fan,

May I remember he is clay–he’s only just a man.

Let me love him the way I want to be,

Forgiving as Christ has forgiven me.

May I build my home by every word and deed,

And may love flourish from every planted seed.

Thanks, Kelly! I needed this. Sometimes, it’s hard to see my man this way since he’s retired and around soooo much.

I love this series that you are doing on marriage. I think we all need to have a good internalized list of who we want to be as wives and mothers so in our (manY) times of weakness we are reminded of the direction we need to go. Thanks for the encouragement!

Yeah, there’s no rhyme or reason to my crazy spam folder…it is my blogging thorn in the flesh ;-)

Oh, I think I need to print this out and tape it to my mirror. And then read it every day, lol. Wonderful post, Mrs. Kelly!

    Kelly,

What a wonderful, but all-too-true poem. Thank you for sharing it with us. I also enjoyed the photograph of you and your husband. It’s very cute. :)

I just caught up on your earlier posts and am always amazed at how alike we are and how God deals with the same issues as you at the same time he does me! But one thing that I was BLOWN away was that you crave ice and especially Sonic’s! ME TOO! Just to let you know, they sell it by the bag! And it is soooo cheap! My freezer used to sit with 4-6 Sonic cups with ice in it, now I have my own bag! :) Thought you might like to know! Happy crunching!! :)

    Heather,

Wanna know something really funny? I used to love the crushed ice from our ice maker, letting it soak in water to get it “soft”. Then our dispenser broke. It still made ice, but wouldn’t crush. I stood in front of the freezer staring, and saying to my husband, “Now what am I going to do?” with a pitiful/desperate tone.

So, I started placing the ice inside a plastic bag, then I place that inside this cloth bag we have. I then roll it up and lay it on the tile counter and beat it with a giant metal spoon (or my son’s hatchet). It crushes it to a fine slushy texture and I can’t get enough of it. This I do multiple times a day and my family is seriously concerned ;-)

I didn’t know about Sonic ice for sell! Thanks for that tip. May I add that the crushed ice is another perk about our hospital stays when I have a baby. I eat it constantly.

I’m gonna have to try this Sonic ice thing. I’m sure it’s a lot healthier than most things I’m find myself crunching on during the day!

  12. Beautiful. What a great reminder. I need this pinned to my forehead sometimes:)
    God Bless
