Something Worth Knowing
In keeping with the spirit of serious discussion characteristic of this blog, I feel compelled to tell you…
I heart McDonald’s Frappes!
If you haven’t tried one yet, do yourself a favor. My sweet friend, Olivia, met me one morning with one of the whipped topping-crowned indulgences, and I’ve been hooked ever since.
I probably wouldn’t have blogged about it, BUT, yesterday my husband treated me to one (as in, he romantically asked if I wanted to ride with him in his work truck to carry back a piece of rented machinery and since we live like a gazillion miles from civilization he instinctively stopped to get me my favorite frappe–I heart him too
) and they were on sale for $1.00 until the first of June! (At least where we live, but I assume it may be across the chain.) It’s a good thing we have to make a special trip to go to McDonalds.
Warning: they’ll give you the worst ice cream headache of your life. Actually, I exhibit zero self-control while drinking them and drink so fast that my whole body hurts (have you ever had a “brain freeze” in your back??!!) I slap my cup down and my husband, barely done with a quarter of his just gives me a bug-eyed, “How do you do that?” I truly can’t help myself–they are soooo yummy. And then he must spend the rest of the trip home fending off my attempts to steal another drink of his. The whole scene is sad.
It doesn’t matter how you pronounce it, by the way…seems no one says it the same way, not even the drive-through attendant.

I LOOOOOOOOOOOVE these!!! That is until someone at work looked it up and found out they have as many calories as one of Mikey D’s double cheeseburgers :-/ ….I’m having to ration myself!
i agree! they are awesome, but a ‘sometimes treat’ lol… at least they aren’t $6 a piece…
I like these, too! But, like you, we live far from the golden arches so…. we have discovered how to make them at home. Here’s what we do: add all this to the vita-mix…1 tablespoon instant coffee, 4-5 scoops (like the scoop that comes in instant lemonade) of NesQuick powder, add ice up to the 4 or 5 cup mark then fill with milk, covering the ice. I then add a squirt of honey and sometimes a little splash of vanilla. Buzz it up until it’s creamy and smooth–adjust to your families liking! These are yummy good
)
p.s..We buy our NesQuick at Costco in a huge canister–much cheaper there.
Lucky Shelly! I may have to try one sometime, though for the moment I’m busy just loving mochas.
Shelly,
Yum…I tried to make one too in our blender, but it didn’t touch McDonald’s
Tried the frappes but i heart the iced mochas. Yes, it’s a good thing we live in the sticks. Special treat when we make the trip to town.
try freezing leftover coffee in icecube trays, throw it in the blender with a splash of fresh coffee and other stuff (chocolate milk etc)… works well… the coffee ice cubes are also GREAT for too hot coffee (don’t water it down)
I just had two today! That sounds horrible doesn’t it? In my defense, the kids ordered one also, and of course I hate to see something so yummy go to waste! I will miss that $1 price:(
Joy,
“Horrible”? No, heavenly
Yes – the McD’s frappes are pretty darn delicious and about 1/2 the price of a Starbucks frappacino. However, I am still jealous that you live in the South – the McD’s there are significantly cheaper than the west coast. And as to nutritional info… just don’t look at it – it ruins the experience!
Those frappes are great. We discovered them about a month ago and have been back 3 or 4 times since! And we rarely stopped to get anything from McD’s before this.
Daughter figured out how to make a pretty good substitute. Try adding chocolate ICE CREAM, a little milk, and she used choco milk mix, leftover coffee, ice, and blend. I like the frozen coffee cubes idea too.
DQ’s Mocha Moo Latte are even better, although not as inexpensive!
Try one!
Michael and I just got THE BIGGEST laugh of the day reading this. In your back?!!! LOL… that is so hysterical!
I love hot coffee, so I love their mochas (the ones that are really close to an expresso!). The more caffeine, the better!
But I’ll have to try the frappe too sometime.
I don’t know if that could beat a Java Chip Frap from Starbucks, but the price is certain to be a winner.
I’ve a friend who speaks french, she assures me you say the ‘e’ at the end like an ‘a’, and the ‘a’ in the middle like ‘ah’. So it’s technichally fr-ah-p-a…
Oh, guess what!!?!
I’m on my way to get one now.
Praise the Lord I live 30 minutes away from the blessed establishment! I’d be totally wasted otherwise. :O)
Cheers!
Mmmmm, you are so right- they are de-li-cious! As far as a caffeine fix, have you tried Crystal Light Strawberry Energy? It has caffeine and, actually, food lion sells their brand for half the cost. It’s sooo good and, for me, a better all-the-time treat because of the calories and cost… but I sure do love the frappes whenever we get coupons!
…and I thought I was a “redneck” ’cause I think these are such a treat
I had one. It was very tasty. Thankfully I have been doing pretty good at avoiding fast food in general, so I will have to await another month or two and then indulge!
So, in the spirit of your last post, is there some kinda of Frappe addiction of which you could plead that you are a victim? Or could we call it Frappe Lovers’ Syndrome? Maybe we need to start up a Frappeholics Anonymous? Or Frappe Addicts Together (FAT)? all in good fun.
Wannabe…
FAT…I love it!
McDonald’s surprised me. I hadn’t liked any of their McCafe items until now. I am hooked!
hehe…well FAT is what you could be if you drink too many of these sorts of things. I bought an espresso machine a few years ago and we wanted our mochas to taste just like the ones from the stands…hehe..so we practiced a lot and just from having those I started gaining a lot of weight. As soon as I stopped the weight stopped. It wasnt the fat in it of course (that actually can and does help me stay thin now) but the inflow of hershey’s syrup.
Well, let us all remember (Paul wasnt it?) what the Bible says about not being brought under the power of foods etc…having self-control
Personally, I just prefer the soft serve cone and when they are 2/$1 it is great to go get ice cream as a family for only $3.
Oh yes!! Love the Frappe! We are forever away from civilization too, so it’s certainly a treat when I have one! Yummy!!
Mmmmmm – gotta love these frappes. AND a hubby who buys them for you. =)
Haha, I haven’t tried one (not a hug McD’s fan), but I’m pretty sure that “frappe” means “to hit” or “to strike” in French…. Certainly descriptive of what they’ll do to our figures!
You were not kidding about the brain freeze! I had one last night and was careful (remembering your warning), and still brain freeze!
Stephanie – that makes sense – it’s basically beaten in a blender.
For those who haven’t tried it, it’s basically a coffee milkshake, but a tad thinner.
I like McDonald’s frappes, too. My favorite is the mocha flavor, the carmel is too sweet for me.
