Be Fruitful & Multiply…Why?

LOVED this post from my friend and fellow blogger-on-a-mission, Natalie @ Visionary Womanhood…a common sense approach to a hot-button issue with lots of wisdom and well-articulated answers. Read “Be Fruitful & Multiply…Why?”

Because it’s in the BIBLE… GOD said and I think HE meant it…

It can be very easy to allow so many things interfere with anything God has said. Too often, we allow logistics (the details of how things are accomplished) to rule our decisions. Because we are uncertain how a large family will be fed and dressed and housed, we are very hesitant to want one, or allow it. I think the reason is fear. It is very uncomfortable to not know things. When we are small children, we are afraid of the dark because we don’t know what might be in that dark. I think it is the same thing with any of God’s commands that don’t make sense to us. Like “love your enemies” or “children are a blessing” or “give unto God what is God’s”(ie tithe). All we see is the road fraught with trouble, enemies overcoming us, children costing more than we earn, and money in the offering plate when we feel the pressure of saving or spending it (even on what seem like urgent “needs”). All we see is the lack, and we fear the lack. We fear the lack of judgement on our enemies, the lack of resources to raise our kids, the lack of income we feel we need for our families. The challenge is to let God fill the lack. Let Him bridge the gap of what we see and what is needed. Remember the wisdom of God is foolishness to man. I think Brother Andrew from God’s smuggler made a really good point when he was in a training school in Scotland(i think), he was bothered by many students’ apparent lack. He felt threatened by this lack. If God is a generous and benevolent Father to us, we surely can trust Him with our finances. He said he was bothered by this because it reflected a relationship. He went on to explain how he could trust his old boss to pay him in full and on time. He knew that God is more trustworthy than any earthly boss, and he prayed that the Lord would always provide all the resources he needed in full and on time. He saw that it was a matter of trust and relationship. And God did, often making andrew wait til the last possilbe second. It can be scary, and we can fear pain, financial hardship, and scads of other things, including dependence on others which can feel degrading or humiliating, but as I said before, when we profess trust and act on it in the midst of or in opposition to hardship/fear, we are giving God an opportunity to display HIS glory in our lives. Perhaps that is why we don’t see miracles today as much–because we are too safe and don’t trust him with abandon.

Well said, Laura. This is what I struggle with daily!

Laura, thank you for the reminder. I struggle with this a lot. I admit that I begin to question God’s love for me when I don’t know how He will solve a problem. My husband is self employed and there have been MANY times when we had NO money, not just a little, but literally NONE. We have survived, we made it, but I wonder about the extra cost on not getting things paid on time. We have few bills: mortgage, utilities, phone, food, gas for cars (needed for hubby’s business), and that is about it. Everything else I consider extra. But when God doesn’t provide on time (my timetable, or the bill collectors) and everything is late, it costs us extra to get it turned back on, late charges etc. During those times I don’t feel like my needs are taken care of, but instead we are picking up crumbs to survive. I begin to wonder why. Have we not spent the money wisely? Have we done something wrong to deserve this? Or is it just a circumstance of God knowing better. I know the answer, but it is really hard to live it.

God Smuggler was a great book. It may be time for me to read it again.
