We recently began to make soap. I was wondering if you work with the lye when you are pregnant?
    Thanks and blessings

  2. Word Warrior says:

    Mrs.,

When we began the business, yes, I used it while I was pregnant, being careful not to inhale the fumes at the initial mixing.

Now we hire another family to make our products, so it’s no longer an issue ;-)

  7. Kelly – A friend of mine gave me a bag of your baby products when we adopted our son 3 months ago. I LOVE the bar soap, and I would like to order some more, but I don’t see it on the page. I also would like to order the same package of baby products she gave me for a friend. There was soap, “butt butter”, two onesies, and a cute bag. Do you still carry these products? Thanks -

  9. [...] It was about 5 years ago (I really can’t remember!), one Christmas as we struggled dreadfully with our finances after my husband’s business collapsed, that I decided to make homemade skin products to save money on Christmas presents.  I really can’t help it, but everything I make I immediately think of selling.  (That bothers some people, I suppose, but ’tis my bent.)  Especially since we needed extra money that Christmas, I launched “Nurtured by Nature”. I gave away some of your products to relatives last Christmas and never got any feedback until recently. My sister-in-law said that hers smelled good enough to eat and that she really liked it because it didn’t cause her to break out like a lot of skin products do. She also enjoyed the product (I think it was body butter) so much that she asked for more for her birthday and was sharing how to get it with her co-workers!

  13. Jane says:

    Hi Kelly,
I wanted to order something but had a couple of questions:

Do any of your products contain alcohol? And, is the shea body butter pure shea with only fragrance added?

My daughter has eczema on her hands and can’t use anything with alcohol in it. I want to try shea butter on it. So far the only that’s helped considerably is Burt’s Bees products but she still has the eczema.

    Thanks

    • Word Warrior says:

      Jane,

The only product we carry that contains some alcohol is the lotion. We carry some products scented with essential oils, and the rest are scented with phthalate-free, alcohol-free fragrance oils.

Our shea butter is pure and raw, whipped with pure almond oil and scented with fragrance oils. You can also special-order this with no fragrance (just be warned that raw shea butter isn’t the *best* smelling ;-)

I had 2 children with mild eczema that the shea butter successfully treated.

      Hope that helps!

  14. Jane says:

Some fragrances contain alcohol, but if you use pure essential oil it would be OK for her to use.

  15. Sarah says:

If I order products as a gift and have them shipped to the recipient, is there a way to request to not have a receipt put in with the package?

The body lotion- I bought the one scented with white ginger and amber. I’m usually pretty picky when it comes to scents, but I LOVE the smell of this lotion! My husband asked what smells so good. :)
The body scrub- This one is definately my most favorite! I bought the citrus splash- which smells heavenly! My skin has never felt so soft! Several years ago I used to buy the body scrub from Bath and Body Works, but have to say I like this one much better; especially for the price. This will probably last me several months.
Thank-you so much for these wonderful products! I will definately be buying again for not only myself, but my friends as well.

  21. good evening! i’ve known about you for a while through my friend, angel hobbs, but i hadn’t used your products until recently. but now i’m in love! we brought our baby home from ethiopia a few months ago, and i’ve never used a product on him that works better than your shea butter. he smells SO GOOD!! perhaps too good, though…and i wanted to know if you had something a little more boy-appropriate (you probably don’t get many requests for shea butter for boys, do you?) i was thinking something along the lines of “dirt-in-a-bottle”. :-) seriously, though, do you have any scents that are less flowery and feminine?? thanks so much for your help!! allison

  22. Word Warrior says:

    Allison,

So glad you like them! Yes, the shea butter is heavenly and my Dad, who is a farmer/carpenter likes it a lot too for his rough hands. We have Country Clothesline, which is still probably on the feminine side though just a clean scent, and then a scent we used to carry (my Dad used it) was almond. I could probably still do the almond fragrance but it seemed quite strong and some people didn’t like that so we discontinued it. Just let me know!

  23. [...] Nurtured by Nature is the name of our homemade skin product business, started over five years ago from our home as a result of a really scant Christmas budget. 24. Melissa says:

Do you have ingredient listings somewhere? I am very careful what I put on my skin and would like to know what is in your stuff. Thanks!

    • Word Warrior says:

      Melissa,

All our products except the lotion are made from 100% natural ingredients…the scrub has brown sugar and almond oil…the shea is pure, raw shea butter and almond oil…the soap is pure soap–oils and natural glycerin (the saponified state of lye once soap is made)…etc. The only products with a few more ingredients is our lotion and moisturizer, which are allergen-free (my Dad has the worst of allergies, starts sneezing like crazy when using commercial lotion, but ours doesn’t bother him at all. I just witnessed this happen to him last night when he picked up a Bath & Body Works Lotion and though he had ours ;-) ) It is also paraben-free. I can get an ingredients list for this, but don’t have it right now. We only using fragrance oils as well. The lip balm also only contains bees wax, oils and essential oil.

  25. Debbriel says:

I am 90% sure I have rosecea. Do you have a product that will help clear it up.

    • Word Warrior says:

Shea butter does wonders for many skin conditions…I found this excerpt on a website:

“If you have rosacea you must give this product (pure shea butter) a try! My face was in a major flare up burning and intense redness, i put on this shea butter and it soothed instantly, also toned down the red. Shea butter in this form contains many vitamins – a b c d e k, iron, calcium, and protein. Helps heal ringworm, eczema, blemishes, psoriasis, extreme dryness, dermatitis, cracks in skin, rashes, itchiness, burning, stretch marks, scars, etc… It also is a natural sunscreen.”

Ours is pure and raw, whipped with almond oil. You may consider getting it fragrance-free, which we can do if you leave a note in the checkout message. Shea butter worked wonders for my son’s eczema.

  26. Denise Kaiser says:

I was just wondering, do you use any preservatives in your creams and lotions? Also, what is the shelf life of your products?

    Thak you so much.
    Denise

    • Word Warrior says:

Denise–we us a paraben-free preservative in the lotion (and moisturizer) but those are the only products with preservatives. The others have a pretty stable shelf life–several months, and more if refrigerated. I’ve used the shea butter for months and have never had any to spoil. Never kept the sugar scrub long enough to tell ;-)

These Nurtured by Nature products look great! I wanted to ask, do you know if the Vitamin E in the Moon-Drenched Moisturizer is derived from soy, or if any of the other products have ingredients that are soy-based? Thanks!

When visiting blogs, I typically discover a quite great content material like yours

  32. Brandie says:

Hi, I had a question about the fragrances you use in your products. My family (me included) tends to react to anything other than essential oils. Are your fragrances “food grade”? Are they artificial? Some of the cheaper fragrances used to scent inexspensive lotions are murder on our skin! I have a collection of lotions that we can rarely use because they either make us breakout, or my daughter and I get a headache from them. Just wanted more info to help decide whether we should order. Thanks for your time!

    • adminnv says:

      Hi Brandie–

We are trying to transition to all essential oils, but right now, we use very high-grade fragrance oils in most of our products, and essential oil in our lip balm.

I will tell you that many of our customers who are allergic to commercial products have no trouble with ours. My Dad is one of them. He starts sneezing the minute he gets near Bath & Body Works or similar product. But he uses our lotion and shea butter and was “amazed* he said, that he was able to use them. I’ve heard similar testimony from several others, if that’s helpful.

  33. Magnificent goods from you, man. I have be mindful your stuff previous to and you’re simply too great. I really like what you have received right here, certainly like what you’re saying and the best way during which you say it. You’re making it entertaining and you continue to care for to stay it sensible. I can’t wait to learn far more from you. That is really a tremendous site.

  34. Joyce from Marianna, Fl says:

Hi, Kelly, I see that you folks are out of the Shea Butter. Would you check to see when you might have some in?
    I need some ASAP.
    Thanks,
    Joyce
